J. has strep. I never would have guessed that all the vomiting and other digestive issues would be strep related. She started throwing up at the ice rink while at a sleepover. The mom brought her home and she spent the rest of the day throwing up. She couldn't keep anything down all day.
By Sunday morning, she was running a 102.2 fever that elevated to 103.2 within an hour. I called the Dr. and they had me bring her in.
She is dehydrated, imagine that, and has strep. We are giving her anti-nausea medication to help keep any fluid and the anti-biotics down. It is day three and she is sitting up today but has yet to eat anything for me. :(
I hate strep! Luckily, it didn't hit M. this badly it just hit him every few weeks during Kindergarten until we had his tonsils out. This is only the second time J. has had it and it has never hit her throat.
I feel badly for her and hope she gets some food and water in her today as she is so weak. If we can keep antibiotics in her, maybe she will get well enough to eat and drink something soon.

S. Visits Santa!
S. got to go see Santa today. He was very excited. He loves, loves, loves Santa! Last week I asked him what he wanted Santa to bring him and he said, "Cake. I like cheesecake, Mommy." He also asked for a duck.
We arrived at school today and went into the sanctuary where Santa was greeting the children. There was a line of kids but when S. saw Santa, he took off at a run and ran right up on the stage! I had to catch him and tell him we had to wait our turn. It was so cute!
When it was time to go see Santa, he ran right up and let Santa pick him up and put him on his lap. He then posed, with a goofy grin, for pictures and then when Santa asked what he wanted for Christmas, S. said a candy cane. Of course, he saw all the other kids getting candy canes from Santa when they got off his lap so S. wanted one too!
Destination Imagination
I am coaching J.'s Destination Imagination team this year. She wanted to join but they didn't have any volunteers to coach the team. So here I am.
We have had three meeting so far and each once has certainly been an adventure. I am learning a great deal about how first graders interact and that team work is not something they understand! I think our biggest challenge will be working as a team without fighting, yelling or tears.
J. gets upset if she does not 'win' something or if her idea is not the one that everybody wants to use. I am hoping that this DI season will teach her some teamwork and how to not have everything her way and still enjoy herself. We will see. She has ended up in tears at two out of three of our meetings.
We had our DI Winter Workshop this last weekend and the kids all seemed to enjoy it. It was just for the younger kids and told them about writing stories, making costumes, teamwork, and performance. I hope they retained even a little bit of it!
Our subject for the year is, "Big Bug's Bad Day" The kids have to research bugs, come up with a play and present it to the judges in February. We only have a total of 11 more meetings before competition and I don't know how the kids are going to pull all of this together!

Decorating the Tree
We usually try to decorate our tree after M.'s birthday each year but this year, it just didn't work out. We ran out of weekends or would have to wait until the week before Christmas. Luckily, the sleep
over for M. tonight was canceled so we decided to slip in our Christmas decorating early.
We had dinner, made cookies and hot chocolate, donned our Santa hats, and decorated the tree. Even K. put on a hat this year!
S. had a great time decorating the tree. Last year he
was a little young to enjoy it or even to put very many ornaments on the tree. Actually, I think he enjoyed all the cookies and hot chocolate more.
I love our Christmas tree. No, it doesn't all match. No, it doesn't have a theme. It has lots of memories. I love all the handmade ornaments collected from t
hrough out the years. I have ornaments from my childhood--one that I made, one from my 5th grade bus driver, and a few from my grandmother. I also have many ornaments that my students gave me from my teaching years. I put their names and year on the back of each and each year that I put up the tree, I love to remember all my great students.
We also have lots of ornaments that the kids have made. Each year they make a few new ornaments in which we put their names and the year on. We also have all those lovely ornaments that they made in pre-school. I love the ones with their pictures in them!
We also decorate the tree with crafts and drawings the kids have done. We just nestle the crafts within the branches. We have the best tree ever!
I got out an ornament this year that my grandmother bought for me long ago. It is a bear that blows bubbles. I have never figured out how to put it in the tree but managed this year to balance it on a branch and be
nd all the needles around it to hold it steady. I don't want it to tip because it is holding a bowl of bubble solution! It seems to be working so far and J. and S. want me to turn it on each day.
